KNORR TASTE QUEST (SECOND TASK)

TASK TIME: 1 Hour 5 minutes

For this 2nd task the contestants were given 4 key ingredients to prepare a two-course meal.

Bread fruit (ukwa), okro, chicken liver, ginger.

“Some concoction running through my head with these key ingredients already” hmmm!

GINGER
BREAD FRUIT
    
OKRO
CHICKEN LIVER
Anyways breadfruits is well known in the eastern part of the country and they call it "ukwa" but the breadfruit I saw on there kitchen table hmmm! that's the baby breadfruit.
hehehe!!! me as an ibo girl my mother have never used it neither have I seen this type ok I have seen the very big one that falls off the tree and they allow it to ferments before bringing out the ukwa seed I no of.
       
Anyways why are they in the competition? Is it not to prove their culinary skills...?

The contestants however proved their worth as aspiring chefs as they creatively presented dishes that certainly looked very sumptuous to viewers.

At the end of the task Ngozy who made what she called “ofe ntata” meaning “chop chop soup”(hahaha chie my ibo sister; really need to know if it’s her creation or a local soup name oooo) got evicted 

and Lalu’s dish came out as the best dish for this episode and was rewarded with a microwave oven. 

        The Winning recipe: 

Lalu dish Recipe

Name of Dish: Bread Fruit, Chicken Liver and Okro Curry with Spicy Ginger, Chilli And Tomato Jam.

Ingredients:

300g Breadfruit, 250g chicken liver, 80g Ginger, 100g Chilli, 80g Onion, 120g Tomato, 30g Garlic, 20g Sugar, 40g Knorr, 80g Curry powder, 120ml Fresh milk.
Preparation: 

1. Sautéed garlic, chilli, onion, tomato and bit of ginger put some curry powder add some water then blend till smooth, put back to sauce pan then add some cream.

2.Cut okro into cubes, peel the bread fruit and cut cube, and blanch them half cooked, also blanched chicken liver and cut into cube then fry the chicken liver only.

3. Put the chicken liver, breadfruit, okro, into curry sauce then add Knorr, salt, bit of sugar and check the seasoning, put in plate bowl garnish with crispy fried breadfruit.

4. Make the spicy jam from melting the sugar in sauce pot then add the onion, chilli, ginger and tomato. Then add some water, a bit of Knorr then put into Chinese spoon, Food is ready!
                    
    Other Recipes from this task 

Damilola's recipe

Name of Dish: Samosa with Breadfruit and Chicken Liver.

Ingredients:
2 cups AP flour with some for dusting, 1/2 tsp salt, 4 tbs oil, Water to form a dough, Breadfruit, Chicken liver, Knorr, 1/2 green pepper, 1 onion (diced), 1/4 tsp chopped garlic, 1/4 grated ginger, 1/4 cup of oil, Flour and water paste.

Preparation:
1. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and add the water and oil and form into dough. Cover in a cling film.

2. Slice/ dice the breadfruit and boil until tender but not overly soft in salted water.

3. Heat some of the diced onions in a frying pan; add the garlic, grated ginger, green pepper, the knorr, with some salt and the chicken liver.

4. Stir fry until chicken liver is cool but still slightly pink. Add the cream and leave to cool.

5. Divide the dough into 24 balls. Roll out and keep under a slightly damp cloth to keep from drying out. In a non-stick pan, heat both sides of the rolled out ball for about a minute.

6. Cut each into half circles and fold to form a triangle using a bit of the paste to seal the sides. Add about a tbs/ tsp of the breadfruit and chicken liver mixture (depending on how big/small your triangle is.

7. Seal the top to cover and deep fry until golden. Serve hot with chutney of your choice. Food is ready!
         

Saratu’s Recipe

Name of Dish:

Stir Fried Liver in Okra and Ginger (Starter) and Breadfruit Pudding (Dessert).

Stir Fried Liver in Okra and Ginger Ingredients: 5cm Ginger (chopped),10 Okro (cut in the shape of lady fingers and deseeded), One Fresh Chilli(chopped), ½ medium onion (chopped), 3 cloves of Garlic, Chicken Liver (cut into small chunks), Table spoon of oil, Knorr (one) and Thyme.

Preparation:
1. Heat the oil for a minute on medium heat in a frying pan and fry all the vegetables apart from the okra for about 3 minutes with the thyme and knorr cube. 
2. Add the okra for another minute. Add the liver and stir fry for 2 minutes. Add the okra seeds and serve.

Breadfruit Pudding Ingredients-1 Breadfruit (peeled and chopped), 1 cup of milk, ½ cup of sugar and 3 spoons of whipped cream.

Preparation:

1. Add the chopped bread fruit, milk and sugar in a sauce pan and heat until the bread fruit is very soft and the milk has thickened.
2. Return the mixture to a food processor including the whipped cream and process until smooth.

3. Add a little bit of Sugar and Food is ready! Serve cold.
