Why do women make this same mistake over and over again... how come the food she cook tasted so good the previous day and now that my mum is sitting on the dining table with us the food taste so different? “In short the food no sweet”. I’m sure these kind of thoughts go through the minds of most men when their wife or girl friend makes this little mistakes. I really can’t explain what causes it, but at this moment, maybe i would blame it on “nerves”?
My friend travelled to the UK few
weeks back and she sent me SMS telling me she had messed up in the
kitchen.
Let’s call my friend *Melisa; one
morning she decided to go and visit a special friend who supposedly is a guy
and there was no food in the house so she decided to make soup... I’m sure
most of us know how men cherish soup/swallow in the UK. That
faithful evening she decided to prepare Egusi soup and she asked for red oil
since she was new to the house she didn't really know where some of
the ingredients where kept and to crown it up a bachelor’s house hehehe
ingredients are always mixed up *chuckle*.When she asked for red oil, her friend opened the fridge and pointed to a bottle in the fridge and left
the kitchen for her and she was like red oil in the fridge??? Wondering
in her mind. When it was time to put the red oil she took the bottle and
opened it and was about to pour the content into the soup she decided to measure
with the big soup spoon when she realised she was about to pour some red watery
liquid into the soup, though very little entered the soup sha ooo...
she looked at the content of the bottle; behold was RED WINE….ewwwwww! She called out her friend to re-confirm what
was in the bottle and he confirmed it was red wine...Oops! As he thought she
asked for red wine... NOTE TAKEN RED OIL IS PROUNOUCE PALM OIL
OOOOOO and not RED OIL IF NOT!!! She was
about to cook Egusi soup with red wine OMG! Dang it... defence NUMBER
1... And she was supposed to express her outstanding cooking skills.
Before I continue, let me tell you something I know about Melisa; she is a good cook and she is not one of those girls who are scared of the kitchen. I’m very picky when it comes to food, I love good food and if I taste your food and it doesn't taste good to me, I would tell you immediately how tasteless the food is and what I think is missing; I’m definitely not covering up for her, nope I wouldn't do that... Her mum taught her well and she did learn it well. For me, she makes the best omelette so far... back to my story.
She
finished preparing the Egusi soup, it should have tasted nice but the red wine
was to be blamed.
Melisa
decided to show her omelette skills the next time she visited; that faithful
morning she was to prove that she can cook knowing fully well she is an expert when it
comes to omelette she arranged it with some extra sardine and guess what?
Mmmhh…. it didn’t taste good at all and her friend didn’t complain so she kept
quiet. But am guessing we would blame the sardine.
Then it was afternoon she decided to prepare jollof
rice for lunch.... Yea I forgot to tell you Melisa has been battling with
two baby pots she found in the house so all these while Melisa has been
battling cooking with those baby pots; poor her!!!,
you can imagine how frustrating that can be. She
had to complain about the pots and he got a bigger pot. Then she started
cooking; everything was going on fine until when she was expecting the water to
dry off it was floating on top and the water was still much and the rice was
not cooked at all she tried stirring it and then she realised it was burning
already OMG fake non-stick pot dang it!!! Defence number 3... Hmmm
one thing you would notice in a bachelor’s house in UK is either they don’t
have any pot or they have those fake non-stick pots that keep begging throw me
away. No offence when they enter Morrison’s or Tesco to buy these pots they
look original and when it start getting food burn they will think it’s their
mistake that's why the food is getting burnt. If you go to their kitchen and you see a
good pot as in medium size pot ask them well its either some girl who came over
bought it for them or a sister, cousin or mum. She left it on the fire to cook
a bit so the rice can get soft but the pot wouldn’t let the rice get done as
the burnt smell alerted her friend and he came
in to tell her that the rice was burning and she
went straight to defend herself by blaming the pot LOL; As they were eating her
friend just opened up and said “girl, this food is not sweet is it that
you can’t cook?” she still continued to blame the pot and wait a
minute this is one girl that I know that will prepare jollof rice and we would
be asking for more plate seriously what really happened?
HMMMM!!! maybe it’s the new environment? Or should I say nerves as she was cooking for her friend for the first time...? Or was it the pot, sardine or RED Wine???. (Thinking)
Last Sunday after church, I decided to go visit Melisa as I was to make her hair so she asked me to cook jollof rice as its been while she ate what I cooked. I carried myself to the kitchen and started cooking; she brought out this meat stock from the fridge which I did use. Finally the rice was ready but I could see water flowing on top and the taste was not just it... we had to eat the porridge rice that way and we were laughing at each other’s bad food.
me I had to blame the meat stock
she gave to me but I felt bad as I wasn’t enjoying the meal the only thought
that came to my mind was how my girl was feeling those days she prepared those
bad food for someone who was eating her food for the first time. She has eaten
my jollof rice so many times so she definitely knew that I can do better than
that.
So back to my question WHY
DO WE FALTER EVEN THOUGH WE ARE GOOD COOKS?
