KNORR TASTE QUEST (FIRST TASK)

TASK TIME: 1 hour

 The search for the number 1 chef in Nigeria 
kick off in a cat fish fight. For the first task the contestants were given 3 key ingredients to work with:

KEY INGREDIENTS

LIVE CAT FISH
COCOYAM (EDE)

CARROTS
For you to start cooking this meal you would definitely have to kill the cat fish first... OMG live cat fish "hehehehehe"; It was a drama house as the contestants struggled to kill their catfish including some of the males contestants. 

By the end of the task Gregory Owie and Saratu Mamman were put on probation (bottom 2) and Damilola made coco yam with white soup to win the first task of the competition.

          The winning recipe: 
Contestant Damilola won the task and she was rewarded N20,000 for winning the task.

Name of Dish: Dashikis African Pasta Soup.

Ingredients:
1 whole Cat Fish (cut into four, head discarded), 3 medium sized Carrots, half juice of lemon, 1 cocoyam (grated finely), 1 cup of Milk, Butter, ½ cup of Wheat flour, ½ teaspoon grated Ginger, 1 Egg, 1 Knorr Chicken cube, 2 medium sized scotch bonnet peppers (rodo), your favourite Pasta (cooked and drained)and Salt to taste.

Preparation:
1. Marinate the fish in lemon juice with ginger, chopped garlic and a pinch of salt in a bowl.

2. Sauté the onions and chopped garlic in butter. Add the milk and leave to simmer.

3.Add the grated cocoyam, to thicken and then the chopped carrots. Leave to simmer gently, then add the peppers, Knorr and salt to taste.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk the wheat flour with the egg and add a pinch of salt. Add a little water.

5. Coat the cut Catfish pieces in the batter. Heat a deep fryer and fry the fish until brown and crisp.

6.When the soup is done, add the warm paste and stir to immerse.

7.Serve in a deep bowl with the fish with lemon and some greens like parsley to garnish. Food is ready! Show love to a friend by sharing this recipe! Remember to try it at home.

Name of Dish: Rice and Carrot, with Scrabbled eggs and Coco fish sauce.

Rice and Carrot: Ingredients & Recipe
- Rice (1cp), Carrot (1pc)

How to Prepare Rice and Carrot:
1. Wash and properly per boil the rice for 5 minutes. Rinse under running water.

2. Cook the rice in a dutch oven (pot). When the rice is properly cooked, you add the chopped carrots.

3. Give it a quick stir to mix the carrot  properly in the rice. Bring down from the cooker.

Scrabbled Eggs and Coco fish: Ingredients & Recipe

Eggs (3), Tomatoes (chopped), Red bell pepper (chopped), Chilli pepper (chopped), Spinach (2 stripes, sliced), Chopped ginger, Chopped garlic, Salt, Knorr stew seasoning and Salt.

Coco fish Ingredients: Coco yam, (cooked, diced and properly blended), Cat fish, Uziza leaves (sliced), Chilli pepper, Salt, Knorr Cube, Palm oil.

How to Prepare Scrabbled Eggs:
1. Put the vegetable oil in a clean saucepan, put in the sliced onion, chopped tomatoes and allow to sizzle until it is properly done. Add the Knorr stew sachet, salt, chopped garlic, ginger and the red bell pepper. Lastly, add the whisked eggs and stir completely.

How to Prepare Coco Fish Sauce:
1. In a clean pot of boiling water, add the washed fish and allow to steam for 4 min. Next, add the cooked and well blended cocoyam. Add the Knorr cube (2pcs), oil and chilli ground pepper, cover the pot and allow the fish to be properly cooked. Next add the uziza leaves.
Stir well and food is ready.

Name of Dish:Pan fried fillet Catfish with Cocoyam/Carrot and mashed spinach Knorr Pesto.

Ingredients:
1.5 kg Cat Fish (whole), 500g Carrot, 500g Cocoyam, 400g Spinach, 80g Garlic, 50g Ginger, 40g Onion, 80g Knorr, 100g Lime, 30g Salt, 100g Butter (Blue Band)

Preparation:

1. Fillet the whole Catfish, peel the carrot and coco yam, put the garlic, ginger and boil.

2. Put some salt and blend them till smooth and put back in sauce pot. Add some butter, Knorr, sautéed onion, garlic, add spinach, and add some water and blend them.

3. Season the Catfish with salt, lime and pan fry. Next, put the cocoyam and carrot mashed in centre of the plate, and then add the catch fish on the top, set the sauce around the plate, Food is ready.
